How many weeks left do I have?

How much time do you have left to live? That might not be a thought that crosses your mind very often, but if you want to inject some urgency into your life, then perhaps you should.

To live life to its fullest, we need to take control of our lives and live every day with intention, but how do we avoid the trap of cruising through life on autopilot.

According to author Tim Ferriss, the answer is to meditate on death, or at least to remind yourself of the impermanence and shortness of life, with an aim of injecting a sense of urgency into your everyday life so that you focus on the truly important things and reduce or eliminate the trivial, petty, and damaging. As Tim explains in the video below, when you don’t think about death, it is all too easy for the habit of pushing things off until tomorrow to creep in.

With this in mind, I decided to create this blog. First as a means of charting my own journey and consistently reminding myself to live life to its fullest, to use my time on pursuing my goals rather than getting bogged in down in things of little consequence. Thinking about my own mortality, I wondered how long I might have left to live. How many years, months, and weeks do I have left? Taking the average life expectancy and subtracting my age, I came up with 39 years. If I accept that number, it would mean I had already lived the majority of my life, which is quite a sobering thought! But it’s hard for me to think in terms of years, so I decided to consider my life in terms of weeks, and I have just over 2,000 weeks left.

With my goals and targets in mind, I can plan each week ahead and focus on the things which move me forward. And that’s what this blog will be about: working towards goals, fulfilling dreams, being productive, and treating time as precious gift to be used wisely everyday.
